Sugarcane farmers demand full payment of cane dues

Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers and workers of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) led by national general secretary Sukhbir Singh Gothina staged a protest at the district collectorate on Friday, demanding payment of sugarcane dues to farmers in the district, reported Live Hindustan.

They alleged that farmers in the district are owed more than Rs 500 crore by sugar mills, including Malakpur, Bhainsa, and Kinauni.

RLD state spokesperson Vishwas Chaudhary said that the preparations for upcoming sugarcane season has already begun, but payments for the previous season are still pending. “Sugarcane farmers are struggling to make ends meet,” he said. “The government’s promise to waive electricity bills for farmers is proving to be hollow.”

The RLD workers demanded that the district collector ensure that the remaining sugarcane dues to farmers are paid with interest as soon as possible.

Omvir Dhaka, Amit Jain, advocate Neeraj Sharma, Kanwarpal Hooda, Rammehr Singh, Pramod Tomar, and Brijesh Chaudhary were also present at the protest.
