Sugarcane farmers in Balod district demand increased support price and bonus

Balod: Sugarcane-producing farmers in Balod district staged a sit-in protest at the new bus stand in the district headquarters on Friday to demand an increase in the support price of sugarcane and a bonus of Rs 200 per quintal. They submitted a memorandum to Collector Indrajit Chandrawal.

The farmers said that the support price of paddy was increased, but the support price of sugarcane was not.

Tejram Sahu, district president of the Sugarcane Producer Association, said that injustice is being done to sugarcane producers. If the government does not pay attention in time, the farmers of the district will stop growing sugarcane in the coming time.

Chhagan Deshmukh, patron of the association, said that the before the assembly elections, we had also submitted a demand to include a bonus of Rs 200 or 250 per quintal in addition to the support price of sugarcane in the manifesto to the convener of the manifesto committee Vijay Baghel on September 23, 2023.

The state sugarcane producer farmers’ association has also met three times and urged to increase the sugarcane rate. They had met Agriculture Minister Ramvichar Netam, Home Minister Vijay Sharma, Finance Minister OP Chaudhary and state BJP President Kiran Dev.

The sugarcane producer association said that if our demands are not met within 15 to 20 days, then we will organize sit-in protests, rallies and roadblocks under the banner of Kisan Sangh.
