Ponda: Sugarcane farmers have opposed the government’s plan to transfer the land of Sanjivani Sugar mill to other organisations, reports the Times of India.
Criticizing the government’s delay in setting up an ethanol plant in the sugar mill premises, the farmers have threatened to move to the court to get back their land.
Around 150 farmers attended the meeting of the All Goa Sugarcane Growers’ Association held on Sunday to oppose the transfer of land to other organisations.
As a course of their action, the farmers have first decided to request the state government not to transfer the land and if this does not work they will be moving to the court, said Rajendra Dessai, chairman of the association.
