Agra, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers have launched a protest demanding the fulfilment of a promise made by the BJP government four years ago regarding the setting up of a new sugar mill in the district.
Around 1500 farmers participated in the protest launched on Sunday. They staged a demonstration ahead of the scheduled visit of the Prime Minister to the region on Tuesday.
The farmers have also threatened to not vote for BJP in the forthcoming state assembly elections.
As per a news report published in The Times of India, Shailendra Pal Singh, state general secretary, Bhartiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) said, we had invited all the legislatures and district administration to a Kisan Panchayat organised in Jawan area to explain why the government has failed to fulfill the promise made last four years ago.
“In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections the government had promised to set up a new sugar mill in the district but nothing has happened till date. We launched several agitations and complained to the concerned authorities but no one has addressed our issue,” he further added.
