Sugarcane farmers protest outside SDM office

Sangrur: Two sugarcane farmers protested outside the Dhuri SDM office by climbing on the water tank of the office demanding the release of Rs 26 crore owed to them, pending with a private sugar mill, reports Tribune India.

The work at the office was disrupted due to their protest and halted due to employees not coming to the office.

“We have not received our dues despite repeated meetings with the mill and the government authorities. We have started an indefinite protest and will continue our agitation till the government releases our dues. We have not obstructed any official from entering the government office,” said Harjeet Singh Bugra, chairman of the Sugarcane Growers Struggle Committee.
