Ambala: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Charuni and Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samiti have decided to hold a protest on June 24 if the farmers don’t get their pending cane dues, reports The Times of India.
A meeting of the representatives of these organizations were held during which this decision was taken.
Gurnam Singh Charuni, president of BKU Charuni said that the Naraingarh Sugar Mill Limited owes dues worth Rs 66 crore for the 2021-22 season and should be cleared to the farmers immediately.
Saloni Sharma, the Naraingarh sub-division magistrate (SDM) along with the officials met the farmers and discussed the issue with them.
Charuni asked the details about how the mill was going to repay farmers’ dues and demanded to deposit Rs 18 crore of electricity produced in the account of farmers.
According to the news report published in The Times of India, Naraingarh SDM said Rs 5 crore will be deposited in the accounts of farmers very soon.
“We will share the details of Rs 18 crore and clear the payment of pending dues within 10 days,” she assured the farmers.
