Sitamarhi: Sugarcane farmers have threatened to launch agitation against Riga sugar mill for their pending cane arrears. The sugar mill owes Rs 120 crore arrears of 40,000 farmers from the Sheohar district in Bihar.
The farmers have stated that they will not allow the mill administration to function if their dues are not paid immediately with interest on it. The farmers took this decision in a meeting organized in Riga on Tuesday.
The rule mandates that FRP amount should be deposited to the farmers’ bank accounts within 14 days after the sugarcane harvest is handed over to the factory owners, but the mill failed to do so. Sugar mill citing depressed sugar prices and scarcity of money as a reason in delay in clearing the cane dues.
