Shamli: In spite of multiple warning from government, sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh are not paying heed to farmers demand to clear cane dues. Cane growers are worried as new sugar season is round the corner and they have yet not received the payment for their sugarcane.
Shamli District Magistrate Akhilesh Singh on Monday warned the sugar mills to clear pending arrears of farmers immediately or else to face action. He was speaking at a meeting conducted to take a review of cane arrears in the district.
District sugarcane officer informed that Rs 87 crore arrears are pending with Shamli sugar mill, Rs 53 crore with Unn sugar mill and Rs 141 crore with Thanabhavan sugar mill. The District Magistrate expressed strong resentment over this.
Allahabad High Court had set October 15 deadline to clear cane dues, but mills in the state failed to abide it. UP Chief Minister CM Yogi Adityanath has served another date of October 31 for mills to clear the cane arrears. Keeping in view the delay in the payment clearing process, the CM has strictly instructed the officials that all the dues of cane growers should be paid by October end.
