Sugarcane production can be increased at low cost by using AI: Sharad Pawar

Sharad Pawar, NCP (SP) chief, announced on Saturday that in the upcoming session of Parliament will discuss the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology into farming practices. He emphasized the transformative potential of AI in agriculture while speaking to the media alongside his brother Prataprao Pawar and Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule. Pawar noted that AI technology has been implemented for the first time in India in Baramati, the constituency represented by his daughter Supriya Sule. As a former Union agriculture minister, he also highlighted the ability of AI to enhance sugarcane production cost-effectively.

“We will raise questions about farmers and farming in the upcoming session of Parliament, including the use of AI in farming,” Pawar stated. He underscored AI’s role in effective water and rainwater management.

“AI is a widely discussed global topic, with vast potential applications in agriculture. Oxford University and Microsoft have already committed to collaborating with us. Notably, Baramati leads the nation in deploying AI technology,” Pawar added.

He elaborated on AI’s benefits in boosting sugarcane production economically.

“AI can significantly increase sugarcane production at a lower cost. We will soon initiate this new technology and select some farmers to pilot its application. Beginning with sugarcane, we plan to expand to other crops.”
