Mumbai: When all the economic activities showed a dip due to the lockdown imposed last year, the agriculture sector that was exempted from lockdown has excelled in output. The latest data about the food grains in the Kharif season indicate that the state has recorded 49% growth in 2020 compared with 2019. The sugarcane crop has witnessed a growth of 44% in 2020.
The Kharif crop is the main crop in the state and the data of the same was presented to the government on Thursday to review the situation of the upcoming Kharif season in the state.
The state government is expecting that the sugarcane output and food grain production will increase this season also as the weather department has predicted a favourable monsoon.
The data shows from 2019 to 2020, kharif food grain production increased from 61.8 lakh tons to 92 lakh tons. Sugarcane production rose from 693 lakh tons to 1,000 lakh tons.
