Sultanpur: Farmers expect sugar mill expansion in new year

Sultanpur: The anticipation for the expansion of the sugar mill in Sultanpur district, awaits in the new year. In 2021, the administration received a proposal for the expansion from the sugar mill administration, based on the efforts of Member of Parliament, Menaka Sanjay Gandhi, reported Live Hindustan.

A comprehensive plan amounting to Rs 600 crores was sent to the government for approval. The 39-year-old cooperative sugar mill in Saidpur, located in the district, has been the subject of several discussions at the government level regarding its expansion. However, despite the creation of a proposal, the expansion has not materialized to date.

The state government had issued orders for the expansion of 13 sugar mills, including Sultanpur, just a few days before the legislative elections. The Sugar Mill Administration formulated a plan of Rs 600 crores, which was forwarded to the government. Despite two years passing since the proposal was sent, doubts persist among sugarcane farmers regarding the expansion. Consequently, farmers are eagerly awaiting the expansion of the sugar mill in the new year.

The expansion would be beneficial for the farmers in the district. The mill is struggling to achieve its production targets, resulting in farmers facing challenges in sugarcane cultivation.
