Dwarikaganj (Sultanpur): The Kisan cooperative sugar mill is facing difficulties due to a shortage of sugarcane. The mill’s operations have been disrupted due to the inadequate supply of cane, leading to frequent stoppages, reported Amar Ujala.
On Wednesday morning, the mill was forced to halt operations at 4 AM due to the lack of sugarcane. Chief Cane Officer VK Shukla instructed all cane supervisors to contact farmers and ensure the supply of cane to the mill. Following these instructions, the supervisors immediately began reaching out to the farmers.
By 10 AM, the supply of sugarcane started to arrive, and by 10:30 AM, the mill had received enough cane to resume operations. However, the mill remained closed for about six and a half hours due to the shortage.
The rising temperatures have made it difficult for cane farmers to find laborers. A farmer from Damodara village said that he still has five bighas of sugarcane standing in his field. The shortage of laborers has affected the harvesting and stripping of the cane.
Another farmer from Mahmudpur expressed his frustration with the mill management’s apathy. He said that the distribution of slips was not done properly from the beginning, which has caused problems for the farmers. He still has seven bighas of sugarcane crop standing in his field.
