Surge in COVID-19 cases forces Malawi government to close crushing operations at sugar factory

The Malawi government has issued orders to shut operations at the local sugar factory after 19 out of 31 workers tested positive for coronavirus.

Khumbize Kandodo-Chionda, Minister of Health and Population Services has issued the directions in this regard, a copy of which is shared with the media.

22 out of 169 samples taken from the workers had been tested positive, he said.

He directed to take up fumigation activities at the factory premises and the environment at the cost of the company. He also asked the employees that have tested negative to quarantine for 14 days as a precautionary measure and they should take Covid-19 vaccine immediately.
