Pilibhit: Varun Gandhi, BJP MP from Pilibhit has demanded the suspension of Amit Chaturvedi, the chief cane officer of Puranpur cooperative sugar mill, and Anil Shukla, cane accounts officer, reports The Times of India.
Gandhi has written a letter to the district magistrate Praveen Kumar Laxkar demanding the suspension of these officials citing the grievances of the farmers from Puranpur tehsil circle.
Following this, DM has issued instructions to the district cane officer, Jitendra Kumar Mishra to take action on the issue.
The issue was raised by the district unit head of BKU, Manjit Singh who had complained about the officers to Gandhi.
Manjit Singh said, “The CCO and accounts officer compelled the in-charge personnel of cane procurement centers to adjust the weighbridges to under-weigh sugarcane by 5 to 6 percent. They were involved in selling the quantity of sugarcane pilfered through under-weighing to cane mafias.”
