On Monday, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami called for a special incentive of ₹215 per tonne for sugarcane farmers who supplied their produce to mills during the 2023-24 season.
In a social media post, Palaniswami highlighted that Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam announced this incentive in the Assembly, with a government release indicating that payments would be made before Deepavali.
He criticized the DMK government for not taking any action on this matter, despite the approaching festival.
The AIADMK leader also reminded that during the 2021 Assembly elections, the ruling DMK had promised farmers a support price of ₹4,000 per tonne.
Recently, the Tamil Nadu government issued an order to allocate Rs 247 crore as a special incentive price for sugarcane farmers who supplied their produce to sugar mills during the 2023-24 crushing season.
