Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E K Palaniswami inaugurated an 18 MW power plant at Perambalur sugar mill at Eraiyur in Perambalur district on Friday. He inaugurated the co-generation plant through video conferencing at Secretariat. The cost of establishment of the plant is Rs 138.86 crore.
Due to various reasons, Tamil Nadu sugar industry is in deep crisis, and they are awaiting financial assistance to come on track. Sugar producers from the state have requested a relief package to come out of this grim situation. Drought in the state has impacted the sugarcane production.
