Tiruchi: Sugarcane farmers under the leadership of BJP and Desiya Thennidia Nadigal Inaippu Vivasayigal Sangam demonstrated on Monday in Tiruchi demanding the government to include sugarcane in the Pongal gift hamper to be distributed by the government, reports The Hindu.
The protesters gathered in front of the District Collectorate raised slogans for their demand and alleged that the government is acting against the interests of the cane farmers. They have pressed their demand to include the sugarcane in gift hampers as farmers have grown the crop to sell it to the government for festival.
