Trichy: After the Punjab government’s recent announcement of a sugarcane purchase price of ₹3,910 per tonne for the ongoing crushing season, the highest in the country, PMK founder S Ramadoss has condemned the Tamil Nadu government for offering low sugarcane price to its farmers, reported The Times of India.
In response to protests by sugarcane farmers in Punjab, the procurement price has been raised from ₹3,800 to ₹3,910 per tonne.
While it was previously declared that the discontinued system of additional price recommendations, prevalent in the former AIADMK regime, would be reinstated in the current DMK regime, the Tamil Nadu government has failed to implement this measure. However, the Tamil Nadu government has not only failed to do that but has also not yet announced the incentive of Rs 195 per tonne, usually given until last year, for the current year, as alleged by Ramadoss.
