Tamil Nadu: Sugarcane farmers demand state government to instruct sugar mill to disburse pending dues

Tiruchy : Sugarcane farmers from Kumbakonam held a rally, carrying the tricolor flag, to demand that the state government instruct Thiru Arooran Sugar Mill to pay their overdue dues, which amount to Rs 157 crore, reports DTNEXT.

The farmers noted that their protest has yet to result in any government action to arrange for their funds with interest.

They called on the government to intervene immediately, pointing out that their CIBIL scores had dropped because the factory administration failed to repay loans in the farmers’ names.

The rally started at Swamimalai Swaminatha Swamy Temple Sannidhi. It proceeded to the farmers’ protest site at Thirumandankudi, with participants chanting slogans against both the state government and the factory administration.

The rally was led by protest committee secretary Naga Murugesan, with committee president Thanga Kasinathan and other members present. More than 100 sugarcane farmers participated in the rally.
