Kanpur: The National Sugar Institute (Kanpur) will provide technical assistance to the sugar mills of Tamil Nadu and Telangana for diversification so as to produce speciality sugars and other value added products from by-products of the sugar industry, reports The Times of India.
A delegation of Ponni Sugars (Erode) Ltd. led by B. Chandrasekar, Senior Vice-President (Operations) visited the institute to finalize the terms and conditions of consultancy.
In the first phase, the institute will help with technical assistance in converting their existing conventional sugar plant into a sugar refinery of 450 metric ton per day and for setting a new unit for producing tableware (cutlery) from bagasse.
NSI aims to diversify the sugar factories to produce multiple products by using the by-products of the sugar mill.”
Another group that has approached NSI for development is Gayatri Sugars Ltd from Telangana which is seeking help to produce various bio-chemicals – vanillin and graphene oxide from bagasse.
