Tanzania’s government will support the expansion plan of Kilombero Sugar Company, which will help in increasing its sugarcane crushing capacity.
Gerald Kusaya, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture said, “We expect that the Kilombero Sugar Company will increase its production from existing 125,000 tonnes to 265,000 tonnes per annum because once the expansion project is completed farmers will have enough market.”
He was speaking on the occasion of Farmers Day organized at Kilombero District at Weekend.
“Sugar production in the country was still low as the current production stood at 450,000 tonnes per annum, while total production by all sugar factories in the country stood at 350,000 tonnes,” Kusaya further added.
