Islamabad: The introduction of an innovative digital monitoring system of sugar production has helped the country in increasing revenue collection in the current season to Rs 26.5 billion, a 33% increase compared to the last year during the same period, claims Pakistan.
The sales tax collection during the first four months- December 21, 2021, to March 22 was Rs 26.5 billion as against Rs 19.9 billion during the same period last season.
The country has witnessed an increase in sugar output this season which has helped in increasing the revenue apart from the introduction of a digital system.
Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin shared this information on Twitter and said that the sugar output is likely to increase by 2 million tonnes this season. This will take Pakistan to the sugar surplus country from sugar deficit one.
The ex-mill sugar prices have also cooled off to Rs 81 per kg, lower than the last year, he said.
According to the data released by FBR, the sugar mills have produced 7.51 million tonnes of sugar up to March 24 as against 5.63 million tonnes produced during last season.
