Telangana: Agricultural University releases five leading maize hybrid varieties for farmers

Hyderabad: The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) unveiled five high-performing maize hybrid varieties at the All India Maize Research Coordination meeting held recently in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The meeting was organised under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), reported The Times of India.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Aldas Janaiah announced the release of the new hybrids: DHM 144, DHM 182, DHM 193, DHM 206, and DHM 218. This brings the total number of maize hybrids developed by the university to 24.

DHM 144, also known as Telangana Maize – 6, stands out for its high starch content, making it ideal for ethanol production. DHM 206 (Telangana Maize – 3) is specially developed for dryland farming and shows strong resistance to drought. According to research, the new DHM hybrids outperform other existing maize varieties across several indicators, making them a promising option for farmers seeking higher yields and resilience.
