Hyderabad: In a development that brings considerable joy to sugarcane farmers in Jagtial district, the Telangana government has announced its decision to recommence operations at the Mutyampeta sugar mill, reported The Siasat Daily.
State IT minister D Sridhar Babu conveyed this decision during a review meeting with district officials in Jagtial on Thursday, January 25.
The Mutyampeta sugar mill, which ceased operations in 2015 in the Jagtial district, is set to receive the necessary attention from the government to facilitate its reopening. Minister Babu addressed the district officers, affirming the government’s commitment to taking requisite measures for the revival of the factory.
Over the past eight years, sugarcane cultivation in the Jagtial district has witnessed a significant decline, posing challenges for farmers who faced difficulties in transporting sugarcane to factories located in other districts.
Amidst this decline, sugarcane farmers in Jagtial had persistently appealed to the former chief minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, urging him to reopen the Muthyampet sugar factory. Despite these appeals, the factory remained closed, leaving the farmers in a challenging predicament.
