Telangana: Scientists encourage farmers for high-yielding maize varieties

Nagar Kurnool: Farmers in Khanapur village recently got a firsthand look at a promising new type of maize. The demonstration was part of a special program organised by the local agricultural centre, KVK Palem, with help from the Maize Research Institute. Dr T. Prabhakar Reddy, who runs the KVK, was in charge of the event, reports Hans India.

Dr. M. Sujatha, a leading scientist, encouraged the farmers to plant these new, high-yielding maize varieties. She explained that using good farming practices at the right time is important for getting the best harvest and making more money.

Dr Reddy pointed out that maize can produce a lot of grain, and using the right fertilizers is key to a good harvest. He also talked about how important it is to plant different crops in rotation to keep the soil healthy.

Other experts at the program gave the farmers practical advice. Dr Mallayya shared tips on how to prevent diseases in maize plants, while Dr Vanishree talked about controlling pests. Dr. Samatha Parameshwari explained ways to increase the amount of grain each plant produces.

Around 100 farmers from the area attended the event, along with scientists from the Maize Research Institute and KVK Palem.
