Telangana: Sugar mill employees protest over delay in payment of wages

Employees of Trident Sugars Limited, situated at Kothur (B) in Zaheerabad mandal, staged a protest on Wednesday, alleging that the management had delayed their wage payments, reported Telangana Today.

As per media report, Trident Sugars, which had been inactive for the past few months, has reportedly not been paying salaries of employees. One employee, Ramesh, who had his daughter’s wedding scheduled, climbed the industry’s chimney, demanding immediate release of wages. This incident heightened tensions on the premises.

Following discussions with the employees, the management agreed to provide immediate relief of Rs. 2 lakh to Ramesh, in addition to another Rs. 2 lakh to Shekar, who was facing serious financial difficulties. The employees accused the management of neglecting to pay insurance premiums, PF amounts, and gratuities to retired and deceased employees. They also claimed that sugarcane was being transported to other parts of the state for crushing due to the management’s unwillingness. The employees said they had kept everything ready in the industry for crushing.
