The sugarcane farmers from Zaheerabad are still awaiting for their pending cane arrears of previous season. Sugarcane farmers claim that the management of Trident Sugars has failed to clear the arrears of about Rs 12.74 crore for about 1,200 farmers for the past two years.
Recently the Finance Minister T. Harish Rao had held two meetings with the representatives of the mill management and farmers to address the issue. During the first meeting held at Collectorate, it was decided to go for auction of assets of the mill. In another meeting, Rao gave more time to the mill to clear cane dues. However, the mill has not yet cleared the dues to the farmers.
