Residents of Gundampally and nearby villages in Dilwarpur mandal, Nirmal district, held a protest on the Nirmal-Bhainsa highway on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, opposing the construction of an ethanol factory near Dilwarpur.
The protesting villagers, including women and children, sat on the highway, halting traffic for several hours. As a result, vehicles were redirected through Beeravelli and Gollamada.
As per the media report, the protesters shouted slogans demanding that the upcoming ethanol factory of a private firm be shifted away from their villages citing ‘potential damage’ to their crops and ‘environmental concerns’.
They carried placards criticizing the lack of action from elected officials and political leaders, accusing them of ignoring the community’s repeated protests against the factory’s establishment. The villagers pledged to continue their protest until their demands are addressed.
