Bangkok, Thailand: The Thai Sugar Udon Thani mill has been allowed to restart operations after being temporarily stopped from buying sugarcane from farmers.
The Udon Thani Provincial Industrial Office announced the decision, allowing the mill to resume its activities and operate its machinery.
Earlier this week, a large number of farmers gathered outside the mill, urging the company to purchase their sugarcane. Around 2,000 trucks filled with harvested crops were parked outside after news spread that the Industry Ministry had instructed the mill to stop accepting burned sugarcane.
The mill had violated the 25% limit on purchasing charred sugarcane by buying over 410,000 tonnes this season.
Frustrated farmers had warned they would block nearby roads with their trucks if the mill did not resume operations.
With the factory now cleared to reopen, the farmers have called off their planned protest. The decision has brought relief to farmers who were eager to sell their harvested sugarcane.
