Thailand may witness dip in sugar production in season 2020-21

Sugar production in Thailand is likely to reduce further in the next season 2020-21 as the country may face drought.

According to the media report, Thai Sugar Millers Corporation (TSMC) public relations working group president Siriwut Siempakdi has stated that the sugar industry must brace for the next drought.

During 2019-20 season, TSMC reported sugarcane production of 74.9 million tonnes resulting into the production of 8.27 million tonne sugar.

Thailand already faced drought in season 2019-20, which affected the global sugar industry. The coronavirus pandemic has resulted Brazil cutting ethanol production and increasing sugar production. Therefore global sugar price may get hampered.
