Thailand’s sugar production fell by 20.37% in the 2023/24 production year, totaling 8.8 million tonnes, according to Virit Viseshsinth, head of the Office of Sugar and Cane Board, who spoke to Reuters on Monday.
Virit projected that the country will produce 10.39 million tonnes of sugar in the upcoming year, marking an 18% increase.
As the world’s second-largest sugar exporter, Thailand consumes approximately 2.5 million tonnes of its production domestically and exports the rest.
