Shamli: Thanabhavan sugar mill completed the sugarcane crushing for the ongoing season on Sunday night. The sugar mill has, however, crushed less sugarcane this season.
J B Tomar, chief manager (sugarcane), Thanabhavan sugar mill said, “We were waiting for the cane on Sunday but very few were supplied by the farmers. We crushed the cane and on Sunday night closed the cane crushing operations for this season. We have crushed around 134 lakh quintal sugarcane for this season. In the last season, we had crushed 152 lakh quintal sugarcane.”
Out of 120 mills operated in the state this year, 75 mills have ended their crushing and 45 mills continue their operations this year, compared to 75 mills which were operating on 30th April’ 2020 last year. It is learnt that most of the operating mills in the current season are expected to close by next fortnight, however, some of them may continue till end of May, 2021.
