Thanjavur sugarcane farmer protest withdrawn ahead of elections

Thanjavur: The Tamil Nadu Sugarcane Farmers Association (TNSFA), affiliated with the Tamil Nadu Farmers Association of the Communist Party of India – Marxist, announced the ending of their more than year-long relay demonstration at Thirumandankudi in Thanjavur district on Wednesday, citing the ongoing Parliamentary Elections, reported The Hindu.

In a press release, Ravindran, the State General Secretary of TNSFA, stated that the decision to halt the agitation was made to support to the candidates of the INDIA Block in the Parliamentary elections.

Ravindran further stated that all pending issues would be addressed through discussions with the District Administration and the State government following the conclusion of the General Elections.
