Palwal sugar mill is yet to start jaggery production this season

Palwal: State government-owned Cooperative Sugar Mill is yet to start jaggery production even though half the crushing season has passed, reports Tribune India.

The crushing season is likely to culminate by April-end and for the first time, there would not be jaggery production this season, as per the sources from the district administration.

In November 2020 the Haryana Cooperation Minister announced that jaggery production will commence at the mills located in Palwal, Meham, and Kaithal. However, the Palwal mill suffered a loss of around Rs 50 lakh due to no demand for the product in the past two years.

The loss in 2022 has been reported at Rs 12 lakh despite the mill selling jaggery at Rs 50 per kg. The officials have however claimed that the jaggery production has not been abandoned completely.

Last year the mill had crushed 17.26 quintals of cane. This season the mill is expected to crush 32 lakh quintals of cane. The mill that began crushing season on December 2 serves Palwal, Faridabad, Nuh, and Gurugram districts.
