Sugar refiner Tongaat Hulett which is reeling under financial stress has secured funding to continue operations till the end of next month, reports Iol.
According to the reports, this as its business rescue practitioners on Friday filed court papers to stave off obligations to pay outstanding levies to the SA Sugar Association for the duration of the business rescue proceedings.
The Labour union Uasa stated that it was pleased to hear about the extension of the business plan.
The general union supported the management of Tongaat Hulett during the process as the survival of the organisation was crucial to the sector, said Uasa spokesperson Abigail Moyo.
