Sugar export has dropped in Ukraine. According to the Ukrtsukor National Association of Sugar Producers, Ukraine in 2019 exported 236,800 tonnes of sugar, which is almost 2.5 times less than in the same period last year.
Ruslana Yanenko, the deputy chairman of the board of Ukrtsukor, said, “The year was not good for sugar producers and the exports were completely dipped as compared with past years.”
According to the reports, Ukraine was gradually losing the markets of Africa and Asia, which once occupied the top positions in the import of Ukrainian sugar, through growing competition from Russia and the EU.
The sugar production in Ukraine has decreased by 19 per cent this season 2019-20 (September-August) compared with last year to 1.48 million tonnes. Total 33 sugar refineries were operating this season that processed 9.84 million tonnes of sugar beets, almost third less than a year earlier. The decrease in raw material has resulted in the reduction of production capacity of the refineries that caused a decline in sugar production.
