Aurangabad: Heavy rainfall in the sugar belt of Maharashtra may delay the sugarcane crushing.
According to the news report published in Business Standard, speaking to a news agency, Jayprakash Dandegaonkar, chairman, Maharashtra State Cooperative Sugar Factories Federation said, “The heavy rainfall has not affected sugarcane crops much but has damaged the roads and other infrastructure connected to the mills which would cause delay in cane crushing. The sugarcane crushing will start once the situation returns to normalcy.”
According to the ISMA, sugar production is estimated to be around 108.02 lakh tonnes in 2020-21 SS, as against 61.68 lakh tonnes produced in 2019-20 SS, i.e. higher by about 46.34 lakh tonnes.
