Pilibhit: The Sugarcane department of Uttar Pradesh has issued an advisory named ‘Panchamrit’ for the sugarcane farmers to increase cane yield, enhance their income and improve the soil as well as save water during irrigation, reports The Times of India.
Sanjay Bhoosreddy, additional chief secretary of the department said that the advisory aims to help farmers adopt a new method of sugarcane sowing to increase their yield.
This scientific method helps in curbing red rot disease, as per the advisory. It also mentions cultivating pulses like ‘moong’ and ‘urd’ with sugarcane.
Dr. S S Dhaka, a plant physiologist in Krishi Vigyan Kendra said, the advisory suggests using drip irrigation as this method saves water by 90 to 92% in comparison to the tube-well method.
