UP farmers stare at losses due to deficient monsoon and excess rains afterwards

Lucknow: Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have suffered heavily due to deficit rainfall during the monsoon season and excess rain afterwards, reports The Hindu.

The excess rainfall was recorded in more than 67 districts out of 75 districts of the state last week as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy rainfall resulted in waterlogging in fields that damaged standing crops like paddy, maize, potato, bajra, Urad and others.

The officials at the district level have started the assessment process of the damaged crops due to the recent heavy rainfall.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has also directed officials to take measures to provide assistance to farmers hit by the adverse weather conditions.
