Lucknow: Our government is taking steps to ensure that the sugar mills in the next couple of years should make cane payments to farmers in 10 days as against the existing 14 days time period, said Uttar Pradesh sugarcane development minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, reports PTI.
During the second term of the Yogi Adityanath government, we had set a target to clear cane dues worth Rs 8000 crore in 100 days but our efforts have resulted in clearing dues worth Rs 14,500 crore, he said.
“The sugar mills had purchased cane worth Rs 35,000 crore this year and have paid Rs 29,000 crore to the farmers so far,” the minister said.
