The sugarcane commissioner of Uttar Pradesh, Pramod Kumar Upadhyay, announced that the sugarcane survey policy (Ganna Sarvekshan Niti) for the crushing season 2025-26 has been issued. The survey work will begin on May 1, 2025. He stated that to ensure accurate estimation of sugarcane production, the survey will be conducted with precision and transparency using the Cane Information System and Smart Ganna Kissan Project, through Hand Held Computers (H.H.C.) with GPS survey, according to the press release.
For farmers’ cultivated land area, sugarcane farmers’ declarations will be available on the website enquiry.caneup.in. Farmers must submit their declarations online. If any farmer fails to submit the declaration online, their quota for the upcoming crushing season 2025-26 may be canceled by the department at any time.
To ensure transparency in the survey process, he explained that the survey team will notify farmers three days in advance via SMS regarding the date of arrival at the farm, along with the name and mobile number of the in-charge of the survey team. The survey will be carried out by a joint team, which will include state sugarcane supervisors, sugar mill staff, and a farmer from the respective circle. In councils where there is a shortage of state sugarcane supervisors for temporary survey circles, additional committee staff will be assigned accordingly.
He further clarified that during the GPS-based survey, the verification of second and third ratoon crops will be recorded in the computerized Cane Survey Register. Each page of the computerized patrol Cane Register will also be signed by the survey team. Fields where sugarcane is grown along with monsoon, winter, or spring planting, drip irrigation systems, and intercropping with sugarcane will also be recorded. Furthermore, the details of the best farmers selected under the model plots in each sugarcane development council will also be separately recorded.
The survey work is scheduled to start on May 1, 2025, and will be completed by June 30, 2025. After the survey is completed, a summary (Goshwara) of the sugarcane area will be prepared in the computerized patrol Cane Survey Register. The final page of this register will contain the joint signatures of the survey staff of the respective sugar mills, departmental sugarcane supervisors, committee staff, the block in-charge, senior cane development inspectors, and the general manager (cane) of the sugar mill, finalizing the survey data.
The Commissioner also mentioned that the sugarcane survey from May 1 to June 30, 2025, will be periodically inspected by headquarters and field officials. All regional deputy cane commissioners and district cane officers have been issued necessary guidelines regarding the survey work.
