UP National Sugar Mill Officers Council requests an increase in the retirement age

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh National Sugar Mill Officers Council has requested Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to increase the retirement age of employees, reports Live Hindustan.

The council’s Vice President Sudhir Sonkar and General Secretary Kailash Upadhyay have written a letter to the Chief Minister regarding this matter. They highlighted a significant shortage of staff in the cooperative sugar mills under the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Sugar Mill Federation, with no new recruitments taking place.

Council officials stated that, in the 24 cooperative sugar mills affiliated with the federation, only about 2,700 personnel are working against the approved 14,000 positions. Of the 1,270 approved positions for officers, only 278 officers are currently employed. By December 31, approximately 100 employees and 27 officers will retire from the federation and the sugar mills.

Due to the lack of new appointments, the sugar mills are unable to operate smoothly, negatively impacting the quality of production outcomes. Despite several efforts, there is also a shortage of technical employees and officers available on contract and outsourcing.

In response to these challenges, the council has demanded an amendment to the service conditions of the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Sugar Mills Federation Limited, requesting that the retirement age be increased from 60 to 62 years.
