Pilibhit: The Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane department has launched an online system for booking mini sugarcane seed kits for over 46 lakh farmers, reports Times of India.
This would help in maintaining transparency in the distribution process of one-eyed pieces of cane seeds to the cane farmers, said Sanjay Bhoosreddy additional chief secretary of the sugarcane and sugar industry.
The distribution of mini kits would begin on March 4 by the department on the occasion of ‘Mithas Mela’ scheduled to be organized by Shahajahanpur-based UP Council of Sugarcane Research (UPCSR).
Sudhir Shukla, director, of UPCSR said, “We will provide 200 one-eyed pieces of cane seeds to farmers at the initial level. With this farmers will have the latest varieties of seeds and they can have enough seeds for next season once they grow these seeds.”
