The sugarcane crushing season for 2024-25 has officially begun in Uttar Pradesh, with 32 of the state’s 121 sugar mills already operational, according to state officials. This marks an increase over last year’s 26 mills that began operations at the same time during the 2023-24 season.
In a statement issued by the Sugarcane and Sugar Commissioner’s office, it was noted that sugar mills across the state have commenced cane procurement and crushing. A total of 70 sugar mills in the state have started purchasing sugarcane by issuing indents.
The state government has also emphasized the importance of timely payment of cane dues, with mills instructed to clear payments promptly. Seven mills have already begun disbursing payments for the 2024-25 crushing season.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh government is prioritizing the welfare of sugarcane farmers, with efforts to ensure smooth operations and financial transparency within the sugar industry.
