Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Development Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary said that around 90 per cent of outstanding sugarcane dues owed to farmers in the state have been cleared in season 2023-24.
Responding to a question in the state legislative council by SP member Ashutosh Singh, Chaudhary detailed that sugarcane worth Rs 35,909 crore was procured, of which Rs 32,357 crore (90.11%) has been paid to farmers. The rest is expected to be cleared when the next sugarcane crushing season commences.
He also brought up the state’s achievements in the sugar industry, saying Uttar Pradesh has emerged as the top sugarcane producer in the country and enjoys an good record of prompt payments to farmers.
He also stated that during the present government, the area of sugarcane cultivation in the state has increased from 20 lakh hectares to 29 lakh hectares.
