Bijnor: According to the news report published in The Times of Ahead of the assembly polls, Uttar Pradesh CM has directed the officials to recover the dues by immediately liquidating “other assets of these mills.”
The sugarcane farmers in the state owe dues worth Rs 1,600 crore for the last crushing season from the 20 sugar mills, all in the private sector. All these mills are owned by the four groups and they have not paid 100 per cent payment in ongoing crushing season.
As per media report, these mills are located in the western UP region, the sugar bowl of the state including Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Saharanpur, Baghpat, Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Bijnor and Pilibhit. As many as 45 lakh sugarcane farmers are associated with around 119 sugar mills operating in the state. On average 40,000 farmers are associated with each mill.
