Sugarcane crop and sugar mills play an important role in the economy and development of the State. The Sugar Industry and Cane Development Department, Uttar Pradesh is making continuous efforts towards facilitating Cane supply and development. It is the result of all the efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Government that there has been an unprecedented increase in the crushing capacity of sugar mills and khandsari units of the State.
Additional Chief Secretary, Sugar Industry and Cane Development, Shri Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy emphasized that the State Government is committed to increase the Cane crushing capacity of the sugar mills and to provide timely cane supply to the farmers. With the increase in crushing capacity of sugar mills, the daily crushing of cane will increase. Due to this, early supply of Ratoon crop to sugar mills will be possible and sowing of wheat and other crops can be sown by the farmers in time. With this, the Cane farmers will get more production as well as the crushing season will be completed in time.
He informed that for the smooth and timely crushing of sugarcane for the crushing season 2022-23, the crushing capacity of 22 private sugar mills has increased the additional crushing capacity such as Rajpura-500TCD, Asmouli1,500 TCD, Mirganj-1,500TCD., Nigohi-1,000 TCD, Maijapur-1,000 TCD, Hargaon3,000 TCD, Nawabganj-500 TCD, Majhawali-300 TCD, Hata-1,000 TCD, Severhi1,000 TCD, Oon-200 TCD, Jawaharpur-2,500 TCD, Parsendi-1,150 TCD, Balrampur-500 TCD, Barkatpur-1,500TCD, Rohanakalan-300 TCD, Dhanaura1,700 TCD, Ajbapur-3,000 TCD, Malakpur-1,000 TCD, Agwanpur-1,400 TCD, Tikoula-3,000 TCD, Anamika-500 TCD.
In the interest of cane farmers, the State Government is committed to the development of sugar mills as well as establishment of Khandsari units for other alternative means for supply of cane. In view of the development of small and cottage industries in rural areas and local employment generation, the rules for establishing new khandsari units has been simplified and a online licensing policy for establishment of new Khandsari units, was introduced in the year 2018-19. As a result, the 284 new licenses of Khandsari units were issued with the additional crushing capacity of 73,550 TCD in cane growing districts of State such as Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli, Baghpat, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Amroha, Sambhal, Moradabad, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Badaun, Rampur, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur, Sitapur, Gonda, Ayodhya, Bahraich and Kanpur etc.
Cane farmers will be benefited by the increased crushing capacity during the tenure of the present Government. Direct and indirect employment will be generated at the local level and the efficiency of sugar mills will increase. Due to the all-round development of rural areas, the economic development of the State will also get a boost. The impact of the establishment of new sugar mills in the area can be seen through the prosperity of the rural area.
With the increase in crushing capacity, more supply tickets can be issued to sugarcane farmers. Thus, on the basis of above mentioned projects related to sugar industry and Khandsari, about 28,050 TCD in sugar mills and 73,550 TCD through Khandsari units will be increased for the crushing season 2022-23. The total increase of 1,01,600 TCD crushing capacity in the current season 2022-23, is equivalent to 20 sugar mills of 5000 TCD.
