Uttar Pradesh: Farmer organisation demands to increase sugarcane price

Saharanpur: In a recent meeting of the Bhartiya Kisan Union Verma faction, President Bhagat Singh Verma emphasized the need for a significant struggle to secure a beneficial price of ₹700 per quintal for sugarcane. The meeting was held at the BKU office on Circuit House Road, reports Live Hindustan.

Verma pointed out that despite 77 years of independence; farmers in the country are still facing severe economic difficulties. Verma highlighted that many farmers are unable to afford the high costs of their children’s education and urged that all farmer debts be cleared and that they receive fair prices for their crops.

The Union also called for linking the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) to agriculture to provide labour for farming. They advocated for the implementation of a Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee law and the removal of GST on agricultural machinery, fertilizers, seeds, and pesticides.

Dr Ashok Malik, National Patron Chaudhary Ramchandra Gurjar, Pandit Neeraj Kapil, Aseem Malik, Dharmveer Chaudhary, Rishipal, and Zaheer Turki attended the meeting.
