Uttar Pradesh: Farmers can earn dual benefits by growing sugar beet alongside sugarcane

Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers can earn dual benefits by growing sugar beet alongside sugarcane, experts stated at a farmer workshop held at Ramgarh sugar mill on Tuesday. The sugar mill has committed to purchasing sugar beet from farmers for ethanol production, reported Amar Ujala.

The event was part of a state-wide live broadcast lead by the National Sugar Institute (NSI), which connected sugarcane department officials and farmers from across the state. Farmers joined the session to learn about the benefits and methods of intercropping sugar beet with sugarcane.

Dr. Seema, Director of the NSI, addressed the gathering during the live training session. She interacted directly with farmers and officials, answering their questions and providing detailed information on sugar beet intercropping.

Key officials present at the Ramgarh event included Additional Sugarcane Commissioner V.K. Shukla, Deputy Sugarcane Commissioner Dr. R.D. Dwivedi, NSI Director Dr. Seema Paroha, and District Sugarcane Officer Ratneshwar Tripathi. They toured the fields within the Ramgarh mill premises to observe the intercropped sugar beet and sugarcane.

U.K. Pathak, General Manager (Sugarcane) at Ramgarh sugar mill, explained in depth how farmers could significantly increase their income by adopting intercropping practices.

Farmers attending the session also observed a live demonstration of sugar beet plots.

The workshop emphasized that sugar beet intercropping not only enhances productivity but also opens up new avenues for ethanol production, contributing to both agricultural growth and energy sustainability.
