Shamali: Sugarcane farmers in the district have demanded the government to hike the sugarcane price on the lines of Punjab-Haryana, reports Amar Ujala.
During last season, cane rate in UP was Rs 350 per quintal, in Haryana Rs 362 per quintal and in Punjab Rs 360 per quintal. This season the Punjab government has increased the cane rate to Rs 380 per quintal which is the highest in the North Indian states.
Sugarcane crushing season has begun in these states and farmers in UP are demanding a higher cane rate equivalent to that of the rate in Haryana and Punjab.
Savit Malik, national head of Kisan Union said, “Punjab has announced the cane rate to be Rs 380 per quintal. UP has not yet announced the cane rate for this season. Farmers are supplying cane to the mills with the hope that the state government would hike the cane rate.”
